A soldier attached to the Kalladi Army camp bomb disposal unit was killed yesterday when a stock of mines he was attempting to defuse blew up.

The mines had been recovered by the Karadiyanaru police and was ordered to be defused by the Batticaloa magistrate. Reports also say that one army officer and a police constable were injured in the accidental explosion.
