Australian Foreign Affairs Minister Stephan Smith mentioned, Sri Lanka government has identified Alex the spokesman to the Sri Lankan migrant as the main human smuggler, but it cannot be confirmed. Eight persons from the ship had been embarked but remaining migrants are insisting Australia to accept them.

Reports from Sri Lankan government inform Alex the 27 years old person is actually Kulenthiraraja Sanjeevi, and he is a member of Kannan group, and had been involved in a road clash, was convicted last year 2003, and was deported from Canada. The Sri Lankan government further states, he had been involved many years in human smuggling , and India is the main base for his human smuggling rackets, but the suspicions published in regard to Alex, cannot be confirmed by him was mentioned by Australian Foreign Affairs Minister. He further said by looking towards Australian angle, the said Sri Lankanks should be embark in Indonesia, and should be cared by Indonesian government was further mentioned by him.
