Government had decided to construct four commercial zones in the north and east regions of Sri Lanka. Additional Secretary to the Trade Development Ministry W.D.Jayasinghe attended a media briefing recently and  stated this.

The United Nation Organization has allocated finance to the process of this project. On this basis, 39 factories would be constructed in the 50 acre land located at Trincomalee. Additional Secretary W.D.Jayasinghe for Trade Development Ministry said, 25 acres of land had been identified in the Batticaloa town, to construct another commercial zone, which would consist 15 factories. He said land has been allocated to the commercial zone proposed to be constructed in the Mannar district. In view of the construction of this commercial zone, businessmen are invited to give guidance and to provide information regarding this construction in Mannar was stated. Meanwhile a new commercial zone is proposed to be constructed in the Achchuweli area, Jaffna, for which the land is identified, was stated by W.D.Jayasinghe. Observers states, in view of these commercial zones constructions, the small industries traders in the north and east will benefit through this commercial expansion.
