A petition with   50 opposition parliament members’ signatories  has been forwarded to President Mahinda Rajapakse to release Sarath Fonseka. Democratic National Alliance General Secretary Vijitha Herath stated.

Presently the government had perceive the war victory for which one year has been concluded. All the people in this country had joined together to celebrate Vesak festival. During this time, thoughts like peace, understanding and pardon should be given importance. By taking these into consideration, President should release Sarath Fonseka was mentioned in the petition. They further alleged that the war hero Sarath Fonseka’s name is deleted from the war victory statements. He pointed out the government is also taking action to destroy the name of Sarath Fonseka in the midst of people. Sarath Fonseka’s name is not visible in any media report published in regard to war victory in any electronic or print media and this is an act of revenge by the government which is clearly established was mentioned by him. Recently Sarth Fonseka’s wife Anoma Fonseka while addressing the media stated the same statement. She said the matters originated by the government against Sarath Fonseka, will not be given pardon by the motherland was mentioned by her.
